POSITION DESCRIPTION
Assistant Principal - Primary
Cornerstone Christian school is a Y1-13 integrated area school for boys and girls. We have a Christian
special character and hence all of our staff are expected to be Christian and participate fully in the
devotional nature of the school.
Position: Assistant Principal (Primary) (Years 0-6)
Reports to: Principal
Liaison: Is a contributing member of the Senior Leadership Team
Primary Objective:
The vision of Cornerstone is to see students grow in excellence in both their learning and their Christian
character, fulfilling the school’s aim of developing confident followers of Jesus Christ who are equipped
and inspired to creatively impact their world. The Assistant Principal - Primary plays a key leadership
role in advancing and embedding this vision across the primary school.
Person Specifications:
The Assistant Principal - Primary:
1. Must have a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and be led by the Spirit of God,
recognising this as the foundation of all Christian teaching.
2. Should understand their ministry within the school as a calling to serve God, rather than solely a
position of employment.
3. Shall be an active member of, and regularly attend, a local Christian church.
4. Shall accept and uphold their responsibility to maintain and strengthen the Special Character of
the School together with its Doctrinal Statement and Educational Philosophy.
5. Will model Christian living and consistently demonstrate a personal relationship with the Lord
Jesus Christ through their interactions with students, parents, staff, and school leadership.
6. Must understand and comply with the School’s Code of Conduct.
7. Will be active in prayer, both personally and in support of their class and the wider school
community.
8. Will be an experienced and effective teacher, with senior management experience preferred.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
1. Head of Primary School Operations
a. Teachers
i. Well-being
ii. Day Relief System
b. Teams and Meetings
i. Primary Leadership Team Meetings
ii. Primary Staff Meetings
iii. Other Meetings as specified from time to time by the principal
c. Manages and runs assemblies for Y1-6 Students
d. Student Leadership
i. Coordinate Primary student leaders
ii. Coordinate Primary council
iii. Run meetings to coordinate primary student leader activities
e. Student Well-being
i. Promote a relational/restorative tone and culture within the primary school that is
consistent with our Educational Philosophy
ii. Actively promote student well-being
iii. Actively counter bullying and other negative or damaging behaviours
f. Parent Liaison
i. Meet with parents from time to time to support school operations
ii. Run enrolment interviews for Primary
g. Primary School Staffing
i. Liaise with DP and Principal around primary staffing needs
ii. Attend recruitment interviews & deployment discussions as needed
2. Teaching
a. Adequately plan units and daily lessons based on student’ needs in accordance with the
Special Character and the Christian curriculum of the school and the National Curriculum
documents.
3. Special Character
a. Work with the Principal/DP to support the Special Character of the primary school
b. Facilitate the delivery of the Special Character curriculum through each primary team
4. SLT Meetings
a. Active contributor to SLT meetings
b. Active promoter of SLT decisions in multiple forums and community
5. Primary School Promotion
a. Oversee primary school information events
6. Reporting to Parents
a. Coordinate Y1-6 academic reporting requirements with the KAMAR manager
b. Coordinate the preparation of primary staff for their learning conferences
c. Work with the DP to ensure academic summaries meet appropriate standards around
currency of information and presentation
7. Primary Curriculum
a. Support Y1-6 curriculum initiatives
b. Support staff to meet the above
8. Student Achievement
a. Work with the DP and Kamar manager to set achievement data entry dates
b. Ensure teachers enter their achievement data on time
c. Work with the DP to produce the timely analysis of achievement data for Board
reporting, MOE reporting, and any other reporting as needed at the time
9. Celebrations and Events
a. Assist in organisation of Primary events such as:
i. Book Week
ii. Superhero day
iii. Cultures day etc
iv. Any other event as assigned
10. Priority Learners
a. Work with the DP to support the achievement of priority learners
b. Support the strategic focus on priority learners within the Primary school
11. Camps
a. Oversight of:
i. Y6 camp
ii. Primary EOTC events, ensuring the TICs complete their allocated
responsibilities
12. Primary Prizegiving
a. Co-present the Secondary prizegiving alongside the DP
b. Work with the DP to coordinate the event
c. Run the process with staff to recommend final prize winners to SLT for confirmation
13. Support of Restorative Behaviour Management practices
a. Work with DP to promote the use of restorative practices and relational classroom
practices throughout the primary school
b. Ensure there is no use of punitive measures and ensure any consequences used are
natural and consistent with our behavioural management guidelines, and promote
restorative practices in line with our Educational Philosophy
14. Primary School Enrolment Meetings
a. Work with the DP to attend enrolment meetings with parents as needed
b. Liaise with contributing schools/early childhood centres
i. Transition meetings
ii. Transition data management
iii. National Standards Reporting or equivalent
c. Liaise with the Principal [and SLT] on delivering Board strategic initiatives
15. Transition to Secondary:
a. Work with the Y7&8 Team leader to manage the transition of students between Y6&7
16. Attend and present at BoT meetings when required by the principal
17. Efficient and accurate management of applicable budgets, within budget
