Details: The ACT Freedom of Information (FOI) team sits within the Defence, Investigations, ACT and Legal Branch and is responsible for oversight of the ACT FOI Scheme, which includes:

receiving and conducting merit review of FOI decision applications
receiving and deciding on requests for extension of time to decide access applications
monitoring the Freedom of Information Act 2016 (FOI Act)
receiving and investigating complaints about any of the functions under the FOI Act
reporting on the operation of the FOI Act
working with a range of stakeholders to monitor the FOI scheme and promote the objects of the Act.
This role requires a highly motivated person with experience in FOI or merit review functions, high level stakeholder engagement and management skills, legal research skills, and written communication skills.

The successful candidate for the Assistant Director, ACT FOI team position will have legal qualifications, experience in researching, interpreting and analysing legislation, and a demonstrated ability to:

lead and manage a small team to achieve quality outcomes
cultivate productive relationships and nurture internal and external stakeholders to influence outcomes
analyse information, exercise sound judgement and think strategically
communicate with influence through written, legally correct and reasoned decisions
conciliate disputes through informal processes
work effectively under pressure, independently or as part of a team, to achieve results
a familiarity with merit review functions and FOI is highly desirable.
