The opportunity we have available
The People Branch, part of the Chief Operating Officer Group in the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts, is responsible for the delivery of a broad range of innovative human resource services and practices to ensure staff are equipped to meet immediate and emerging challenges, and work collaboratively with the branches to coordinate and deliver professional centralised services to the Department.
Reporting to the Assistant Director, Rehabilitation and Injury Management, the department is seeking a highly experienced, adaptable and capable person to fill the role of Rehabilitation Case Manager.
What will you do?
This role is responsible for the delivery of rehabilitation and compensation functions, including providing expert advice and support to both employees and managers. The successful applicant will show initiative, possess excellent communication and problem-solving skills in regard to compensation and rehabilitation management. Case management experience within the APS is highly desirable.
In this role you will be required to perform duties in accordance with the APS Values and Code of Conduct; and
Contribute to the implementation and management of the Department’s Rehabilitation Management System, including reviewing policies and procedures, provision of advice and the promotion and implementation of health and wellbeing initiatives.
Contribute to the effective and timely compensation and rehabilitation service to employees in accordance with the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Act, and, as required, undertake case management of ill and injured employees.
Support managers with injury management and resolving workplace issues that may impact on the success of the employee's return to work.
Work in partnership and ensure that all key stakeholders consult and participate in developing and implementing return to work and rehabilitation programs.
Work with the employee, their supervisor, medical practitioner and the workplace rehabilitation provider to determine the rehabilitation goals and content of the rehabilitation program.
Undertake investigations into claims for worker's compensation and liaise with the Pay and Conditions Unit regarding the processing of claims for workers compensation.
Identify continuous improvement opportunities and implement solutions, lead and contribute to section projects, including identification and implementation of an improved case management platform.
Actively manage the risk of worker's compensation premium escalation; and provide recommendations for prevention of injury and illness interventions. Maintain confidential and secure records of rehabilitation cases, in accordance with legislation

Strategic and program management skills including an ability to develop, interpret and apply policies and processes.
Effective people management skills.
Ability to engage and influence stakeholders in a professional and effective manner.
Technical Knowledge of the Safety Rehabilitation and Compensation legislative framework and experience in interpreting this in a work environment and Case management experience within the APS is highly desirable.

Eligibility requirements
Employment with the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts is subject to conditions prescribed within the Public Service Act 1999 including:
Citizenship: candidates must be an Australian citizen at the time of submitting your application.
Security Clearance: The successful candidate must be able to obtain and/or maintain a security clearance at Baseline. You must be willing to disclose all relevant and required information. You must have lived in Australia, or have a checkable background, for at least the preceding five years for Baseline Vetting clearances. More information on the security clearance vetting process is available on the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA) website.
Police check: The successful candidate must satisfactory complete an Australian Federal Police criminal history check.
Integrity and Performance check: The successful candidate must satisfy the requirements in an Integrity and Performance check which is completed by your most recent employer.
Qualifications: Technical Knowledge of the Safety Rehabilitation and Compensation legislative framework and experience in interpreting this in a work environment and Case management experience within the APS is highly desirable.
