Overview of the role:
WestJet is seeking an Analyst, Safety Data Programs. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Group Audit, Investigations & Safety Data, this role is responsible for developing, maintaining, and advancing analytics and statistical models focused on Safety and Flight Data Monitoring (FDM).
Leveraging data from the Company Reporting System and multiple internal sources, including WestJet aircraft systems, you will generate insights that support stakeholders in achieving safety objectives. You will also contribute to broader initiatives by producing reports, ensuring data integrity, and applying advanced analytics across large, complex datasets.
This role sits within a fast-paced, high-visibility team that operates with a strong commitment to accuracy, service excellence, and delivering high-quality insights to stakeholders and senior leadership.
In support of the FDM program, you will collaborate closely with Air Line Pilots Association-designated gatekeepers, flight safety teams, and safety investigators to support and strengthen WestJet’s FDM program, ultimately contributing to overall operational safety and performance.
Key deliverables include:
Review, analyze, and combine data from multiple sources
Perform data quality assessments and in-depth analysis of datasets
Troubleshoot data and data analysis issues
Create, maintain, and update 150+ Power BI reports
Use statistical tools and methodology to identify, analyze, and interpret patterns and trends
Write advanced SQL queries to analyze, store, sort, and retrieve data for further analysis
Extract and communicate insights from raw data
Handle day-to-day data requests
Grow the program to use more in-depth and complex statistical tools, including, but not limited to, machine learning, simulations, predictive modelling, and reliable statistical methodologies
Meet with stakeholders to discern goals, objectives, and KPIs relating to data systems controlled by the team, and provide meaningful reports and insights related to those goals
Analytical mind with strong problem-solving skills
Experience and qualifications
3 years+ of BI Analytics development experience, or a Bachelor's or master’s degree in mathematics, statistics, engineering, operations research, data science, or a related field.
Practical knowledge of data modelling, architecture, and warehousing
Practical knowledge of SQL
Expert knowledge of Microsoft Excel
The following would be an asset:
Previous experience with flight operations and/or Flight Data Monitoring (FDM) analysis and software
Intermediate to advanced DAX, PowerShell, or VBA
Previous experience with advanced statistical modeling
Previous experience with safety reporting or safety management systems
Knowledge of aircraft systems and performance, preferably Boeing 737/787 and Q400 aircraft
