Job Description
Ensures the work assigned is completed as required and is in compliance with the University specifications, standards, procedures and all relevant Plumbing Codes.
Responsible to become familiar with all existing University structures and systems, as well as acquire knowledge of new trends, techniques, codes and equipment as they become relevant to the operation of the University.
Ensures that equipment, workspaces, and tools supplied by the University are used for their intended purposes, and are maintained in a safe working order.
Manages own time effectively and ensures immediate supervisor is kept informed of activities, and progress of work.
Provide customer service to internal according to university and departmental standards and expectations by pleasantly and respectfully interacting with co-workers, supervisors, contractors, consultants, suppliers, students and other members of the University community as well as evaluating customer satisfaction.
Discretion, confidentiality, and attention to detail is maintained at all times.
Is expected to actively participate in own training and development in coordination with the department, and is willing to learn and adapt to change.
Meets all ongoing OHS initiatives, follows University OHS policies, procedures and OHS Legislation as required; ensuring personal, public and co-worker safety when completing tasks or engaging in potentially hazardous situations.
Is familiar with the University of Calgary "Statement on Principles of Conduct" and conducts himself/herself according to these Principles in all situations when acting on behalf of the University of Calgary.
Ensures regular work attendance and timely reporting for start of shift.
Ensures that personal hygiene, attire and grooming are appropriate for the work environment.

Qualifications / Requirements:
Mandatory Provincial or interprovincial Plumbing Trade Certification with 3-5 years of experience.
Preference given to candidates with Power Engineering Certificates (5th to 1st Class), Gas-fitting, Steam Fitting and/or Cross Connection Control Testing Certificates.
Candidate must agree to attain minimum 4th Class Power Engineering within 12 months of employment. Training will be provided by employer.
Must hold a valid Class 5 driver¿s license (cannot be a graduated license) with proven good driving record (abstract required).
Institutional setting experience would be an asset.
Must have a good working knowledge of the Canadian Plumbing Code.
Must have the physical strength and stamina to lift heavy loads, be on feet for long periods of time and sometimes work in cramped positions.
Must have mechanical ability, be able to use hand and power tools, be able to work on ladders at various heights, and demonstrate a safety-conscious attitude.
Must be able and willing to work in a variety of environments, including office settings, classrooms, research laboratories including areas that support animals, mechanical rooms, service tunnels etc.
Must be able to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
Must have the ability to work with others in a team environment including mentoring and sharing knowledge with apprentices and co-workers.
Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision to complete tasks assigned in a timely manner.
Must have a proven record of upgrading and updating applicable trade skills and staying current with industry trends.
Must have proven record of providing superior customer service including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
Must be able to listen to and understand information and ideas presented and have ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand.
Must be able to manage own time effectively.
Must be able to use Microsoft office suite including word, e-mail, mobile communication devices, such as iPhone, Smartphone etc.
