Supercharge your training at St George Hospital

What you'll be doing

As an Advanced Trainee in the Intensive Care Unit at St George Hospital, you will deliver high-quality care to critically ill patients in a dynamic and complex clinical environment, while actively progressing through the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM) training program with the aim of achieving fellowship

Working under the guidance of Specialist Intensive Care Physicians, you will lead a multidisciplinary team in the management of patients requiring intensive care, as well as those at risk of clinical deterioration. The role offers a supportive, flexible structure with graded responsibility, allowing you to develop increasing clinical autonomy and expand your skills in leadership, research, education, and administration—preparing you for transition into specialist practice.

The unit provides access to a comprehensive ICU-based echocardiography service, including hands-on training and supervised pathways for formal certification. Regular multidisciplinary simulation training is conducted in a state-of-the-art simulation centre located within the ICU complex.

To support the breadth of CICM training requirements, Advanced Trainees may also undertake secondments in Anaesthesia or Medicine as part of their rotation.

Where you will be working

The vision for South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) is ‘exceptional care, healthier lives’. SESLHD is committed to enabling our community to be healthy and well, and to providing the best possible compassionate care when people need it.

Most surgical and medical subspecialties are represented in the case-mix in keeping with the tertiary referral centre status of the hospital. In addition to the accredited training program for the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM), the unit also contributes to anaesthetics, surgery, physician and emergency medicine training.

St George Hospital and Health Services is an accredited, principal teaching hospital of the University of New South Wales. It is the largest hospital within South Eastern Sydney Local Health District with 627 inpatient beds.
