Administration Officer

Position Title: UNIX Midrange Support/System Admin

Location: Remote

Overview:

Charter is currently seeking one (1) experienced UNIX Midrange Support/System Admin to join our team starting July 2025.

The ideal candidate will have significant hands-on experience (6+ years) providing day-to-day administration, management, and support of enterprise UNIX environments (Midrange Support), specifically Red Hat, SuSe, and AIX—along with advanced experience in Microsoft Server and Azure administration. Expertise with IBM Storage (including SVC), enterprise backup solutions, and troubleshooting across hybrid IT environments is required. Previous experience with direct access storage management, capacity management, and performance management is required.

You will play a key role in ensuring the stability, reliability, and security of critical IT infrastructure to minimize the risk of service disruption. Effective communication skills and the ability to share knowledge with technical teams are vital. Candidates must excel in dynamic, fast-paced settings, demonstrate sound judgment when responding to critical incidents, and participate in on-call rotations as needed.

Term: 36 months.

Location: Remote.

*On site may be requested from time to time. 4 weeks notification will be provided. **Candidates must reside in Canada for the duration of the project.

Key Responsibilities

UNIX System Administration: Maintain and support Red Hat, SuSe, and AIX environments (6 years of hands-on experience required).
Cloud Server Support: Perform Azure administration and Microsoft Server support from a systems administration perspective.
Storage Backup: Provide administration and support for IBM Storage (including SVC) and backup solutions.
Security Management: Ensure secure environments by configuring and managing system permissions.
Technical Documentation: Create and update technical documentation and user guides for new systems or updates.
Support Troubleshooting: Deliver technical support and troubleshooting to ensure smooth operation of server environments.
On-call Rotation: Participate in on-call rotation as part of a team; occasional work outside normal business hours may be required (but typically not exceeding 40 hours per week).
Qualifications and Experience:

6+ years of experience (Midrange Support) administering Red Hat, SuSe, and AIX UNIX environments.
Proven experience with Microsoft Server and Azure Administration.
Experience providing administration and support for IBM Storage (including SVC) and backup solutions.
Experience creating technical documentation and user guides for new systems.
Experience setting up and managing permissions to ensure the security of systems.
Experience setting up and supporting Unix, server and Azure systems.
Active industry certifications would be an asset
Excellent communication (written and verbal) in English is required.
