Development Technician – Engineering Manufacturing

Location: Burton-on-Trent

Type: Full-time, Permanent

A specialist engineering business is looking for a proactive and technically capable Development Technician to join its growing team. Based at their Burton office, this role will also involve travel to UK operational and manufacturing locations to support product development and quality assurance activities.

What you’ll be doing:
• Creating fabrication and manufacturing drawings to ensure safe, economical, and robust product designs.
• Producing accurate 3D models and technical schematics using industry-standard CAD tools.
• Assisting in the design and execution of product test schemes, including prototyping, testing and reporting.
• Recording data, producing detailed test reports, and inspecting new products.
• Collaborating with design and production teams to maintain high standards of product quality.

What we’re looking for:
• 2+ years of relevant experience in a technical or manufacturing setting.
• Solid understanding of steel fabrication and manufacturing processes.
• Strong hands-on skills and familiarity with testing procedures.
• Confident in producing and interpreting technical drawings.
• Highly proficient in Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office suite.
• Excellent communication and project management abilities.
• Proven ability to manage workload effectively and remain calm under pressure.

Qualifications:
• HNC/HND in an engineering, design or manufacturing discipline (or equivalent).

Ideal traits and behaviours:
• Detail-oriented and practical, with a problem-solving mindset.
• Strong team player who values collaboration and constructive feedback.
• Comfortable challenging ideas to drive innovation and quality.
• Deadline-driven and highly organised.
