Worksite: Firehall Branch

Job Summary: Reporting to the Branch Head, the Supervisor supports the day to day operation of a medium branch while adhering to the Library’s policies and procedures in accordance with the Library’s vision, mission and values. The Supervisor leads the clerical staff team and oversees the clerical work related to the administration of the unit and participates in developing, ensuring and sharing system wide consistent practices, particularly with respect to circulation and clerical administration.


Job Requirements:


Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must possess the Education/Qualifications and Experience listed below in order to be deemed as meeting minimum qualifications.

For Library Assistant VI, “successful supervisory experience” equates to 18 months of supervisory experience.


Education/Qualifications:

Completion of Twelfth Grade, supplemented by post-secondary level courses, such as supervision, business, computer and library technician courses.

Experience:

Four years of public library experience, including successful supervisory experience.


Knowledge, Skills Abilities:

Ability to lead, coach and develop a clerical staff team; excellent team-building and leadership skills.
Considerable knowledge of VPL current trends and leading practices in areas of responsibility.
Thorough knowledge of non‑professional library methods, procedures and library tools applicable to the work.

Ability to plan, schedule, assign, supervise, review and participate in the work of a moderately large group of non‑professional subordinates.

Ability to participate in the planning of library programs and projects
Ability to participate in the recruitment and selection of clerical staff, and to train and develop them.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the staff of outside agencies.
Ability to learn new technologies, applications software, processes and skills.
Thorough knowledge of library services, collections, technologies and resources.
Strong commitment to serving clients; open, pragmatic and responsive to clients and community.
Innovative and flexible in a rapidly changing library environment with the ability to assist staff to participate in and be open to change.
Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as analytical and problem solving skills.
Ability to actively promote the service of the branch to the patrons and work with them to meet their needs and expectations.
Affiliation: CUPE 3+1
Employment Type: Regular Full-Time
Salary: $34.30 to $40.34 per hour
Work Schedule:

Tuesday: 8:30am – 5:00pm
Wednesday: 8:30am – 5:00pm
Thursday: 8:30am – 5:00pm
Friday: +:40am – 6:10pm
Saturday: 8:40am – 5:10pm (EDO Week 3)
