POSITION OVERVIEW:
Startec Refrigeration Service is currently recruiting for a 3rd Year Apprentice Commercial Refrigeration Mechanic to work at our Lethbridge, Alberta location (10+ Broxburn Blvd, Lethbridge, AB). This role offers the opportunity to further develop expertise in refrigeration system design, installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance while contributing to a collaborative, safety-focused environment. We are also open to considering qualified Journeyperson candidates for this position. Rates are determined based on experience and tenure. The pay range for Apprentices (1st to 4th year) and Journeypersons (1st to 4th year) is $25.+5 to $51.8+ per hour (depending on supplemental rates/premiums).
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI):
TECHNICAL EXPERTISE & OPERATIONAL DUTIES (Weighting 60%)
System Design, Installation, and Maintenance
Design and installation of welded, threaded, and/or brazed refrigeration piping systems.
Conduct start-ups, inspections, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance for refrigeration and compression systems, resolving system issues as needed.
Interpret blueprints, schematic drawings, and manufacturer instructions to independently construct, assemble, and install equipment.
Problem Resolution
Troubleshoot refrigeration electrical control systems and perform necessary repairs.
Perform all work in compliance with the Quality Control and Health & Safety program.
Take on additional duties as required to support job functions.
SERVICE EXCELLENCE (Weighting 40%)
Customer-Focused Service
Deliver exceptional customer service with professionalism, competence, and integrity.
Ensure accurate and timely completion of paperwork and reports to facilitate prompt invoicing and support customer and company needs.
Teamwork and Safety
Prioritize workplace safety by adhering to all safety protocols and fostering a secure environment for colleagues and clients.
Collaborate effectively within a team-oriented environment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Registered with Apprenticeship Industry Training (AIT) as a third/fourth-year apprentice (Refrigeration) or Journeyman certification or equivalent in HVAC refrigeration mechanics.
Basic computer skills required (MS Office Applications)
Class A Gas Fitting is an asset
Strong customer service and relationship-building skills.
Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
Effective communication skills and ability to work in a team.
Willingness to learn and develop technical skills through on-the-job training.
Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean Driver's Abstract
Ability to work independently and on-call.
Ability to work out of town. Travel and overnight stays may be required from time to time.
