About the team
The Workforce Planning, Analytics and Insights team forms part of the broader People Command, comprising of three (3) streams - Workforce Analytics, People Insights and Strategic Workforce Planning. The WPAI team provides workforce planning, analytics and workforce insights services that are accurate, insightful, and actionable; and support AFP operational effectiveness, identification of workforce risk, and ability to plan and make strategic decisions.
People Insights – The People Insights team is the centre of excellence for employee surveying and research, providing executive with insights to workforce concerns through the AFP annual staff survey, exit survey and pulse surveying.
Strategic Workforce Planning – The WFP team is a workforce planning centre of excellence, providing guidance and tools for business areas to conduct workforce planning.
Workforce Analytics – This team is responsible for organisational structure management, internal and external reporting of people data, and data analysis on workforce trends, hotspots and issues.
The team works together with the AFP Executive and other business partners in providing the critical planning, reporting and analytical capability required to help inform and support AFP organisational outcomes.
We are currently recruiting to fill current vacancies and create a merit pool for Senior Team Member (Band 6) and Team members (Band 5) across both the Workforce Planning and People Insights Teams.

The Workforce Planning and People Insights teams are responsible for organisational surveys, strategic people initiatives, and the creation of self-service tools to help business areas with their staff management and workforce planning.
What will you do?
As a HR Strategist, you will support your Team Leader to implement the AFP Strategic Workforce Plan and deliver people-based solutions to workforce issues and challenges that drive enterprise business goals. Day to day activities include but are not limited to:
Implementing and tracking the AFP Strategic Workforce Plan
Establishing and maintaining effective relationships internally and externally
Developing and implementing communication and workforce strategies
Monitoring and tracking progress of HR initiatives
As a People Experience Analyst, you will support your Team Leader to provide the AFP with relevant and timely people experience insights and develop strategies to address underlying issues. Day to day activities include but are not limited to:
Applying qualitative and quantitative analytical techniques to draw insights from people experiences
Engaging with stakeholders to understand what people related experiences they are looking to explore and provide sound advice on the best practice approach to evaluate it
Developing strategies to address risks and areas of concern that improve the employee experience and benefit the organisation
Developing process maps to understand and demonstrate processes that hinder the employee experience
To succeed in these roles, you will have experience from roles focused on workplace culture, diversity/inclusion, workplace engagement (staff and exit surveys) and project management. Experience utilising workforce planning trends and data to inform strategy, would be advantageous.
You will also be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments. It is expected that the successful applicant will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.

Essential Requirements
You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application.
A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
Demonstrated ability to identify HR issues from multiple sources (both qualitative and quantitative).
Demonstrated ability to develop HR solutions, with a user-centred focus (Band 6 only).
Desirable Requirements
Background in strategic workforce planning or strategic people projects.
Ability to work with HR data analytics and/or metrics to develop people solutions.
Proven ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to deliver outcomes.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to present information in a concise and articulate manner.
Proficiency in the use of Excel.
Experience to plan, drive, and deliver on multiple concurrent projects.
Capability to apply creative thinking.
Experience or interest in learning about People focused trends.

The role is Canberra-based, however remote working arrangements may be negotiated by suitable candidates who are currently based in Sydney and Melbourne. This will include a combination of work from home and hot desk arrangements.
Where remote working arrangements are established, employees must have the ability to occasionally travel to Canberra as required.
