The Blue Whale Children’s Centre is a non-profit learning cooperative in central Ottawa, operating since 2015. We offer small group classrooms led by passionate teachers who use hands-on, child-centred, and inquiry-based approaches to support students’ emotional and academic growth.
We’re currently hiring part-time instructors for the 2025–2026 school year. Ideal candidates are deeply committed to working with children, open to flexible teaching methods, and skilled at developing engaging, holistic lessons in subjects they love—without relying on set curriculums.
Responsibilities will include:
- Design and deliver hands-on, inquiry-based lessons tailored to students’ interests and developmental needs. Teachers are expected to develop flexible, inquiry-based curricula in their areas of passion or expertise, without relying on pre-set programs.
- Foster warm, supportive relationships with individual students and the group as a whole by creating a respectful, collaborative, and emotionally responsive classroom environment and supporting both academic and emotional development equally.
- Incorporate daily outdoor learning and facilitate nature-based activities Adapt teaching strategies based on student needs, questions, and curiosity
-Collaborate with coordinators, families, and other staff to support a holistic educational experience
Applicants should have a B.Ed. or equivalent experience, a background in alternative education, and a passion for both academic and emotional development. Comfort with outdoor learning and a creative, collaborative spirit are essential.
