Join our diverse and talented people and work at the heart of national security, providing essential intelligence to the NZ government to protect New Zealand and its people.
At the Government Communications Security Bureau (GCSB) | Te Tira Tiaki, our mission is to protect and enhance Aotearoa New Zealand's security and wellbeing. We are looking for a System Engineer with a great attitude who are passionate about technology. We pride ourselves on the level of positive collaboration among our teams, and you will be working with a diverse group of customer-centric technical professionals, who will share their expertise and help you grow.

The role:
We have an opportunity within our Mission Capabilities Unit, based in Auckland, Wellington or Blenheim.
The role will sit in the Developer Experience (DevX) team, that broadly seeks to enable mission-focussed teams across the NZ Intelligence community so they can carry out their work efficiently and effectively. It will be specifically focused on developing and sustaining two important applications that support security vetting and intelligence investigations functions.
Below are the skills and experience we hope you will be able to bring to the role:
Most relevant:
Confidence working with Linux

Database fundamentals in one or more of ElasticSearch, Redis, MariaDB and Postgres
Proficiency with data flow tools e.g. Kafka, NiFi

Confidence working with Windows and other Microsoft technologies
Experience with RedHat OpenShift
Experience with Appian
Comfortable working with Monitoring tools e.g Prometheus, Splunk
Proficiency with automation tools e.g. Terraform, Ansible
Good understanding of DevSecOps
While this role will have its specific focuses, it will likely be involved with other initiatives as required, so the ideal candidate will be adaptable and comfortable working on different, and sometimes new, things.
