We are currently seeking an experienced and passionate Student Counsellor to join our Student Support Services team in a maternity leave position, commencing Term 3, 2025. This role primarily supports students from Prep to Year 6, though cohort allocations may shift depending on operational requirements.

About the Role
Reporting to the Head of Student Counselling, this role is integral to supporting the wellbeing and learning of our students and their families. You will provide short-term counselling, contribute to wellbeing programs, collaborate with teaching staff, and work closely within a multi-disciplinary team.
As a key part of MLC’s holistic wellbeing approach, you will play a vital role in promoting mental health awareness, early intervention, and inclusive practices that reflect the diverse needs of our community.

Key Responsibilities
Provide counselling, clinical assessment, and referrals for students and families.
Work collaboratively with teaching and support staff to embed wellbeing into daily practice.
Maintain accurate, confidential case files and statistics.
Participate in and contribute to whole-school wellbeing programs.
Engage in case management and liaise with external professionals and agencies.
Be part of an on-call weekend roster (not more than once per term).
What You Bring
Relevant qualifications and current professional registration (see below).
Strong experience in counselling children and adolescents, ideally in an educational or youth-focused setting.
Demonstrated ability to manage complex and sensitive situations with care and professionalism.
A collaborative, proactive mindset and excellent interpersonal skills.
A deep understanding of trauma-informed practice and child safety standards.
Professional Membership (required for applicants)
Psychologists: Full AHPRA registration (Educational Developmental, Clinical, or Counselling endorsement desirable).
Social Workers: Membership with AASW.
Counsellors: Level 3 or 4 ACA or Clinical PACFA membership (or equivalent).
