The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the Manager, Capital Engineering, this role is responsible for supporting the Engineering Division with updates to our existing GIS system and associated databases. You will also assist with field site inspections to support Capital Engineering Project Managers with deliverables related to road, bridge, and culvert construction. You will be responsible for a wide range of project-related support, including GIS maintenance and development, data collection, and community engagement logistics.
As the Student, Capital Engineering, you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:
Assist Capital Engineering staff in delivering projects related to road and asset improvements
Liaise with IT/GIS group to ensure strategic GIS management direction is followed
Perform GIS duties using Town-supplied software and hardware
Maintain and develop GIS spatial databases (easements, reference plans, stormwater assets)
Conduct site visits and assist with site inspections and project updates
Assist with logistics for community consultation and engagement events
Respond to internal and external customer inquiries and service requests
Maintain and improve standard operating procedures
Assist with daily administrative operations and special projects
Work in compliance with OHSA, Town policies, and industry guidelines
The Ideal Candidate
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented student working towards a degree or diploma in Geomatics, Civil/Transportation Engineering, Planning, or a related discipline, and are returning to school in Fall of 2025.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated knowledge of roads operations and capital works and be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and GIS software such as ArcGIS, AutoCAD, and Geocortex. We are seeking an individual with superior organizational and analytical skills, a demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
The successful candidate for Student, Capital Engineering will be required to work a flexible schedule, including in the office, on-site visits, and occasional after-hours support as required.
This position offers an hourly rate starting at $20.62.
Satisfactory proof of schooling or return to school, may be requested.
