Position Purpose

The Store Manager holds full strategic and operational responsibility for the end-to-end management of SRKD LIMITED. This includes leading all aspects of business planning, staff management, inventory, financial performance, product mix, compliance, and customer experience. The role requires a high level of autonomy and decision-making authority to ensure the store meets its commercial goals while providing a high-quality and culturally relevant retail experience.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic and Operational Leadership

Design and implement store-wide operating policies, systems, and business strategies. Lead the planning and execution of retail strategies to maximize customer satisfaction, sales growth, and profitability. Set performance targets and lead the team to achieve operational excellence. Continuously improve store processes, merchandising approaches, and service delivery models to maintain competitive advantage.
2. Financial and Business Management

Prepare, manage, and review store budgets and profit loss statements. Analyse and report on key financial indicators including gross margin, net profit, shrinkage, and stock turnover. Oversee cost control strategies, approve expenses, and ensure financial targets are met. Make final decisions on supplier agreements, wholesale negotiations, and procurement terms.
3. Product Mix and Merchandising Strategy

Develop and manage the store’s product mix to meet customer needs and optimize profitability. Select and source a balanced range of Indian and South Asian grocery items (e.g. spices, lentils, rice, snacks, frozen foods, fresh produce) based on cultural trends, seasonal demands, and community preferences. Analyse product performance data to identify top sellers and underperformers, and adjust inventory accordingly. Ensure the product range supports both mainstream and specialty dietary requirements (e.g., vegetarian, halal, gluten-free). Plan and execute visual merchandising and category placement for effective product presentation.
4. Human Resource Management

Lead the recruitment, induction, and training of store employees. Structure the staffing model and prepare rosters to meet operational demands. Monitor staff performance, provide coaching, and manage disciplinary processes when required. Create a positive, inclusive, and performance-focused work environment.
5. Inventory and Supply Chain Management

Manage end-to-end stock control systems including purchasing, stock rotation, and waste minimization. Establish strong supplier relationships to ensure availability of high-demand and culturally specific products. Utilize inventory software to forecast demand, monitor stock levels, and prevent shortages or overstocking.
6. Customer Service and Community Engagement

Ensure exceptional service standards are upheld across the store. Resolve escalated customer complaints and ensure customer satisfaction protocols are followed. Plan and promote community engagement activities and seasonal marketing campaigns (e.g., Diwali, Eid, Pongal). Foster relationships with community groups to strengthen brand loyalty and store relevance.
7. Compliance and Risk Management

Ensure full compliance with all regulatory requirements Conduct routine audits to identify and mitigate risks. Implement corrective actions and maintain high standards of health, hygiene, and safety in accordance with WorkSafe NZ and MPI guidelines. Maintain all necessary permits and ensure staff are trained in food safety and handling protocols.
Key Skills and Competencies

Proven ability to lead, coach, and manage diverse teams. Strong business and commercial acumen. High-level decision-making and problem-solving skills. Deep understanding of multicultural product preferences, especially within the Indian and South Asian communities. Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills. Advanced computer literacy, including POS, stock control, and Microsoft Office software.
Qualifications and Experience

Minimum 1 Year experience in a full managerial role in a retail or trade. NZQA Level 6 or higher qualification in Business, Retail, or Management.
