Challenge yourself add significant value to Qantas Group
Challenging opportunity to innovate and drive change through technology
Permanent role – working at our Mascot Campus
At Qantas, we represent Australia to the world. Our diverse country is known for its unique spirit, mateship, and a can-do attitude. Together we’re strong and resilient, and we work hard to make sure we’re always at our best.

Technology is a big part of how we continue to pioneer our way forward. With eyes on the future, our IT team harness technology on a global scale and tailor local solutions for each of our ports. Together we’ll show you it’s possible to make an impact and to never underestimate what you’re capable of achieving.

As a Senior Android Engineer, you’ll be responsible for guiding and leading the architecture, delivery and development of the software systems that power our business. They are aware of Android trends, hands-on, and a highly skilled software developer with the experience to both dive into code and mentor other technical team members to deliver high quality, well-designed software. They share a large amount of responsibility for the quality of the software being built, including but not limited to achieving desired business outcomes, meeting reliability and performance expectations and safely managing security and data privacy concerns.

Senior Software Engineers use their depth and breadth of experience to help guide the team with a strong sense of pragmatism: knowing how much design work is enough, how much testing is enough, to maximise team efficiency. They are able to spot code design problems early and lead the work to address them.

As a member of the Mobile team, you’ll be directly involved in all aspects of our Android app from early in the planning and development lifecycle through to delivery and monitoring. You’ll be working with teams of mobile developers on a large, widely used native application that is an important self-service channel for our customers into many areas of our travel and loyalty business.

You’ll have:

Proven experience working with large Android projects and teams and can talk to these challenges and considerations.
Confidence in applying patterns, techniques and approaches that ensure high-quality, highly flexible software.
Strong ability to forge and reinforce strong software engineering principles and best practices
Attention to detail and a quality-focused mindset with a strong background and interest in automation, testing and code quality.
Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate technical requirements effectively to the business and across multidisciplinary teams
Leadership qualities and an approachable attitude to educate, mentor and influence the team.
Experience in mobile architecture patterns, dependency management, build optimisation strategies.
Thorough knowledge of Google's Android design principles and interface guidelines.
Recognition of the importance of good API design in mobile applications, along with proficiency in writing and maintaining Unit tests and UI tests.
Experience or interest in building and extending tooling and processes to improve developer productivity, delivery and consistency throughout the mobile teams.
Some of the technologies you’ll be working with:

Kotlin
Android Studio
Room
Kotlin Coroutines
Jetpack Compose
GitHub
Mobile Continuous Integration – GitHub Actions
Why Qantas?

You’ll join a team where creativity and passion are encouraged. Our people come together to allow us to dream big and deliver successfully.

There are many different opportunities across our team, which means you’ll be able to grow both personally and professionally at Qantas. Your development is a priority for us – so that you can maintain the high standards our customers have come to expect and can continue to develop over time. You’ll be supported from day 1 with on the job training and coaching as well as our formal training opportunities. While you may start in this role, we’ve got a great track record of supporting our people to take their career in so many different directions, the destinations are endless.

The Qantas employee benefits program offers amazing benefits that extend well beyond travel:

We love to travel: Enjoy heavily discounted air travel within Australia and across the globe, both for you and your family and friends, as well as exclusive deals on accommodation and holidays.
We have flexible leave options: Make use of leave and flexible working opportunities including 18 weeks paid parental leave (plus superannuation payments on all paid and unpaid parental leave until your child turns 1) and additional purchased leave options for eligible employees.
We’ll give you access to thousands of rewards: Through our partnerships we can offer you discounts across shopping, food and wine, insurance, health and wellbeing, leisure and entertainment. You can also take advantage of our salary packaging program including motor vehicles, eligible portable electronic devices and professional memberships.
We’ll support your wellbeing: Whether it’s learning to better support your own and others’ mental health, our interactive wellbeing app or your very own tailored nutrition plan.
Applications will close by the 19th of August
