As part of our ongoing growth, we are seeking a highly skilled Senior Litigation Legal Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will have comprehensive knowledge of the rules and procedures of the Supreme Court and County Court of Victoria and will be a proactive and meticulous professional with a passion for delivering high-quality legal support.
Role Overview:
As a Senior Litigation Legal Assistant, you will provide expert administrative and legal support to a litigation team, ensuring the smooth and efficient progression of cases before the Supreme Court and County Court of Victoria. You will be involved in all aspects of case management, including document preparation, court filings, correspondence, and client liaison. This is a senior-level role where attention to detail, organizational skills, and a deep understanding of court rules are crucial.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in the preparation and management of litigation files, including drafting and filing documents such as pleadings, affidavits, subpoenas, and notices of motion in accordance with the rules of the Supreme Court and County Court of Victoria.
Coordinate and manage the timely filing of court documents, ensuring compliance with all court deadlines and rules.
Prepare briefs for counsel, including gathering relevant case law, documents, and other materials required for hearings.
Liaise with clients, barristers, and external parties regarding case progress and court dates.
Manage diary and calendar entries for litigation matters, ensuring all deadlines are met and relevant court dates are noted.
Conduct legal research to support ongoing litigation matters, staying current with any changes to court rules and procedures.
Draft letters, emails, and other correspondence related to litigation matters.
Assist in preparing for hearings, including arranging and managing the logistics for court attendance.
Maintain accurate and organized files and records, ensuring all documentation is securely stored and easily accessible.
Provide mentorship and support to junior legal assistants and administrative staff within the team.
Manage multiple files simultaneously and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Key Skills and Qualifications:
Minimum of 3 years of experience as a litigation legal assistant, with a focus on matters before the Supreme Court and County Court of Victoria.
In-depth knowledge of the Rules of the Supreme Court of Victoria and the County Court of Victoria.
Exceptional attention to detail, with a strong focus on accuracy and compliance.
Ability to manage high volumes of documents and competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to liaise confidently with clients, legal professionals, and other stakeholders.
Proficient in legal software, document management systems, and MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative and problem-solving skills.
High level of discretion and professionalism in handling sensitive information.
Certificate IV in Legal Services (preferred) or equivalent legal qualification.
