ROTATIONAL POSITION (MULTIPLE DEPARTMENTS) RESIDENT MEDICAL OFFICER

Working with Northern NSW Local Health District, you can play a part in delivering quality care to our region. The Role
Tweed Valley Hospital is seeking Resident Medical Officers and Senior Resident Medical Officers to work on a rotational basis across five clinical terms annually. This program provides our medical officers with quality experience across a comprehensive range of medical and surgical specialities, offering excellent foundation training for your medical career.
Preferences for rotations can be expressed during interview, and final allocations will be confirmed following acceptance. Available rotations include:
General Medicine
General Surgery (including Colorectal, Upper GI and Breast Surgery)
Surgical Subspecialities – Orthopaedics, Urology and ENT
Emergency Department
Psychiatry, at either Tweed Valley or Byron Central Hospitals
Paediatrics
Obstetrics Gynaecology
Renal
Haematology
Oncology
Geriatric Medicine
Palliative Care
Cardiology
Intensive Care
Anaesthetics
Medical Administration
All positions include a relieving term, which involves covering after-hours shifts and providing annual leave coverage for other junior medical officers. This role ensures continuity of care whilst giving you exposure to various departments and diverse clinical situations.

About Tweed Valley Hospital
This is an exciting opportunity to join Tweed Valley Hospital, your primary work location and a new, major referral hospital at the heart of the network of hospitals and health facilities across the Tweed-Byron region, also including Murwillumbah District Byron Central Hospitals. The 723.3 million state-of-the-art hospital opened on 14 May 2024 and will deliver additional health services and bed capacity to meet the growing community's healthcare needs.
Tweed Valley Hospital has:
currently 280 beds with capability to expand to 430 beds
expansive outpatient facilities with opportunity to increase available clinics
a developing interventional cardiology service
a fully capable emergency department with 42 treatment spaces
an integrated cancer care service with radiotherapy
12 operating theatres
a dedicated Learning, Development Research centre located on campus, with modern library facilities
End of trip facilities (showers etc) and free staff parking!

What you'll be doing
The purpose of the position is to provide medical care and support, as part of a multi-disciplinary team that is consistent with the level of clinical competency and experience of the appointed trainee. This includes the assessment and management of patients across several clinical departments under the supervision of senior practitioners whilst developing broad skills in clinical decision making and practice.
Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role (please address these in your response)
Demonstrated ability to work independently in a supervised environment.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team with an understanding of the roles of the doctor and other members of the healthcare team.
Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with patients, family members and other members of the health care team.
Good organisational and time management skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.

Evidence of continuing professional development and commitment to self-education.
