with enhanced pay for weekend working

International Sponsorship - this role is not open to international sponsorship.

Lancashire County Council provides full in-house catering services to 16 homes and 11 day centres for Older People’s Care Services across Lancashire, serving over 800 meals per day. We are dedicated to providing high-quality care services to our residents, with core values that include promoting dignity, independence, and respect.

We are looking for a passionate and dedicated Mobile Cook (Relief Cook) to join our team and help us maintain these standards across our Residential Care Homes, covering a 3 week rota, working 1 weekend in 3 – with pay enhancements for weekend working.

As a Relief Cook, you will play a crucial role in ensuring our residents receive nutritious and delicious meals. You will be responsible for covering rota gaps in the kitchens of our Residential Care Homes across Lancashire. This role requires flexibility and the ability to travel across the county, therefore access to a vehicle is essential.

What we are looking for

As the ideal candidate for this role, you will possess a recognised catering qualification (desirable) and have substantial experience in menu planning, stock control, and catering for large numbers.

A strong understanding of food costing, specialised diets, and basic hygiene practices, as well as appreciating the nutritional needs of our residents and the correct use of kitchen equipment will be essential. Additionally, the successful candidate must be a vehicle user due to the need to travel across Lancashire to cover rota gaps in our Residential Care Homes – mileage is paid.

Why Choose Us:

Great Annual Leave: We offer up to 32 days annual leave, 8 bank holidays, and 2 additional statutory days during the festive season. You can also purchase additional leave.

Financial Benefits: Our generous Local Government Pension Scheme, annual pay reviews and enhanced pay for weekend working.

Training and Development: An excellent induction through our Social Care Academy and ongoing support for your career and professional development.

Health and Wellbeing: A Wellbeing Support Programme for you and your family.

Staff Discounts: You'll get access to dozens of discounts through Vivup, our employee benefits partner. Our scheme covers a car lease scheme, shopping, entertainment, gym memberships, holidays, and more.

We embrace diversity and have a range of support, groups and networks for staff. These include the Forum of Asian Black and Ethnic Employees (FABEE), the Disabled Workers Forum and the LGBTQ+ Employee Network.

You will be required to provide a car for use in connection with the duties of this post and must be insured for business use. However, we may consider you if you cannot drive because of a disability.

For an informal discussion please contact Angela Dawson on 07+17836674

The post you are applying for is covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1+74 (Exceptions) Order 1+75 (as amended in 2013). If successful you will be required to apply to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) for a 'disclosure'. Further information can be found on the 'Our Recruitment Process' tab.

This position is part time, please note the salary quoted is full time equivalent, the salary received will be paid on a pro–rata basis.

We reserve the right to close down a vacancy early, before the closing date, if we receive sufficient applications.
