POSITION SUMMARY
Provides nursing care to the patient by assessment, planning, treatment, and evaluation. Provides safe, knowledgeable, compassionate, educative, individualized, and goal orientated nursing care to all patients and their families
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
Graduate of an accredited registered nurse program
Experience:
Previous experience as a registered nurse required.
Previous experience preferred in the following areas: scrubbing, circulating, PACU, and admissions.
Previous experience in an ambulatory care setting preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Effectively functions as a team member and as a liaison between patient and staff.
Possesses basic computer skills.
Ability to work well with patients, families, physicians, visitors, and coworkers who are often under physical or emotional stress.
Able to maintain confidentiality of all records and information in the course of the work day.
Able to share knowledge as in orienting new employees to the surgical center.
License/Certification/Registration:
Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse.
Meets the American Heart Association's standards for Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) and renews BLS every two years.
After four months from the hire/transfer date, meets the American Heart Association's standards for Healthcare Provider Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and renews ACLS every two years.
After six months from the hire/transfer date, meets the American Heart Association's standards for
Healthcare Provider Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and renews PALS every two years
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Receives general supervision from Manager /Nursing Supervisor Surgical Center.
SUPERVISION GIVEN
None
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Assesses and responds to the individual physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of the patient through personal observation and interaction. Acts as a patient advocate.
Utilizes professional nursing skills and judgment; takes action to implement nursing care and treat the problems identified.
Communicates patient assessments to the appropriate individuals ensuring the coordination of patient care.
Demonstrates knowledge of diagnostic measures such as labs, radiology, EKG. Demonstrates skills in IV therapy.
Transcribes and implements physicians' orders in an accurate and timely manner while admitting patient to the surgical center efficiently.
Documents in the patient clinical records via computer with accuracy and in a timely manner. Checks the required information on the patient record to comply with the correct surgical procedures. Completes final review of patient record to ensure all paperwork and activities such as site marking is complete and that anesthesiologist has spoken to the patient and family.
Provides appropriate and knowledgeable instruction/education to the patients and their families.
Decrements supplies according to policy. Utilizes supplies, equipment, and resources to contain costs without compromising patient care.
Assists with housekeeping duties such as cleaning and making beds as needed for patients.
When assigned to PACU, uses knowledge and critical thinking to assess and give appropriate nursing care. Recognizes patients’ needs; maintains airway, monitors VS, utilizes correct medication to control pain, and consults with surgeon and anesthesiologist if any difficulties arise that affects the patient. Evaluates patient's status using discharge criteria to safely move patient
onto Phase 2.
ls familiar with the transfer process and procedure to send a patient to the medical center.
When functioning as a float nurse, maintains communications between all areas and is available to assist staff as needed to maintain flow; relieves staff for breaks and lunch in a timely manner
and utilizes staff in a cost effective manner.
Works as assigned in the pain management and eye laser procedure rooms.
Familiar with anesthesia supplies; assists with nerve blocks; knows location of crash cart, MH cart, and medications that may be needed in an emergency.
Participates in committee meetings, offers suggestions for improvements, and seeks guidance and direction when needed.
Other duties as assigned.
