$144,070.00 - $161,445.00 per annum plus superannuation

About the role
A position has become available for a property lawyer to join our team for a 12-month contract.

This role offers an opportunity to make a genuine difference and to contribute to the sustainability and growth of Sydney. In this role, you will provide support and guidance to the City of Sydney’s Property Services team, which has recently undergone a significant change in its operating model. The Property Services team manages and maintains the City of Sydney’s buildings and associated assets, and includes over 250 properties including operational, community, commercial, industrial, residential and public domain properties.

Our dynamic and closely-knit legal team provide support across the City of Sydney’s property and projects portfolio. We play an intrinsic role in the successful delivery of a diverse array of projects, and in the acquisition and management of the City of Sydney’s significant property portfolio.

You will be responsible for advising on a variety of legal matters, including:

Providing quality legal support in the areas of property law, contract law, policy and other legal areas arising out Council’s operations
Evaluating and advising on property law issues, including leasing disputes and litigious matters
Reviewing and drafting lease documentation and notifications
Provide clear, timely and pragmatic advice to resolve property law issues and improve processes
Interpreting relevant commercial, property and policy legislation
Assisting with the preparation and registration of land registry dealings
Establishing and maintaining relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.

About you

You will be a solicitor with at least 2 years PQE gained either in private practise or in-house, with experience in advising on property law issues. Strong drafting, advisory, research and project management skills are essential.

You will be capable of working in a high volume and busy environment and providing practical solutions and advice.

Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to manage deadlines and to work as part of a team are essential attributes.


This role has the option of a rostered day off each month, known as a 1+-day month.
