Opportunity for a Principal Research Fellow to join the Heat and Health Research Centre, a globally recognised research centre at The University of Sydney

Base Salary $181,166 - $1++,585 (pro rata 0.30 FTE) + 17% superannuation

About the opportunity

The Heat and Health Research Centre in the Faculty of Medicine and Health at The University of Sydney, is seeking a Principal Research Fellow to help drive the centres growth into a globally recognised leader in heat and health research. The candidate will provide clinical expertise and medical oversight for laboratory and non-laboratory research activities, while strengthening the centre clinical research activities and partnerships.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

assist in the growth of the clinical trials area and clinical research activities

provide clinical expertise and medical oversight for studies related to human health and extreme heat

contribute to research focused on mitigating the impacts of heat stress on human health

provide medical expertise for laboratory and field studies-across Australia and internationally

strategically build clinical activities and work with clinical populations

provide senior leadership supporting the Centre’s strategic objective to be global leaders in research on extreme heat and human health

facilitate cross-disciplinary research (internal and external to the University of Sydney) and increase the Centre's capacity to address heat-health challenges, benefiting the school’s broader strategic objectives

interact with Local Health Districts (LHDs) through existing collaborations within Sydney, including maintaining our strong partnership with NSW Health

maintain a national or international reputation for academic excellence through independent and innovative contributions to research, expanding knowledge and practice in the discipline

Support the development of collaborative research grants applications and collaborate on funding proposals

provide mentoring and supervision to research staff

Attend team and project meetings where required and maintain regular communication with senior project leads and other professional and academic staff within the Centre

Uphold professional conduct and standards in all interactions with colleagues and stakeholders

Undertake other duties and contribute to projects appropriate to the classification level as required.

About you

Postgraduate or PhD qualifications or an equivalent combination of training and experience

minimum 5 years of clinical experience in the broad area of emergency medicine, public health, disaster medicine or related fields.

experience working in clinical or medical settings, supporting clinical work, and adhering to clinical governance policies

strong background in public health, medicine, climate change and health, and clinical research

excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, with the ability to present to a wide range of audiences

proven ability to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary research team, with clear respect for and understanding of the contributions of other disciplines in developing comprehensive solutions to complex problems

reputation at a national or international level with supporting research profile

extensive experience supervising and mentoring others

a wide network of established relationships with academic, industry and professional partners and stakeholders
