About us
The Auckland Regional Forensic Psychiatry Service, or the Mason Clinic as it is often known, is the largest Forensic Mental Health Service in New Zealand. We serve the four Northern District Health Boards including all courts in the northern region and five prisons.
We deliver a comprehensive range of Forensic Mental Health Services, including secure inpatient acute and rehabilitation services which connect to community rehabilitation services, services for offenders with an intellectual disability, culture specific programmes for Maori, court liaison and prison mental health services. This includes a regional service to Northland Region Corrections Facility at Ngawha and Northland
About the role
We are recruiting Mental Health Care Assistants to join our team at Mason Clinic. In this role, you will assist the Registered Nursing staff to provide delegated nursing care which is safe, respectful and individualised. You will be confident relating to, and dealing with people who can at times demonstrate difficult or challenging behaviours. Therefore, having good verbal communication skills, being calm under pressure and demonstrating resilience is essential.
We are interested in hearing from Mental Health Care Assistants, those who are keen and motivated to practice in a new subspecialty area, or those with existing forensic experience. Training and support are key priorities in developing our workforce.
While employed at the Mason Clinic you would be expected to work across all wards if needed.
Essential
Experience working with people of all cultures who experience mental health issues
Ability to work under directions and delegation of Registered Nurse
National Certificate in Mental Health or equivalent
Previous experience in mental health care or care giving
Ability to identify own stress/coping mechanisms
Full NZ driver's license
