To be fully engaged in providing No Harm / Quality, Customer Experience, and Stewardship by: working as a team to maintain responsible attitudes, performing laboratory testing to provide quality results and using resources efficiently. The Medical Technologist is assigned to one or more of the following laboratory sections of responsibility: Blood Bank, Microbiology ( Bacteriology Virology Parasitology Mycology Mycobacteriology Immunology Molecular Diagnostics), Core Lab ( Hematology Coagulation Routine Chemistry Urinalysis), Special Chemistry.
Medical Lab Scientists:
The Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) performs diagnostic tests in medical laboratory to provide data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease, ensuring validity and accuracy of test results. Performs clinical laboratory testing of various complexities, while engaging in no harm, high-quality, consumer-centric experience, and stewardship by working as a member of Health First’s clinical team.
Medical Technicians:
To be fully engaged in providing Quality / No Harm, Customer Experience, and Stewardship by working as a team to maintain responsible attitudes, performing laboratory testing to provide quality results, and using resources efficiently. Performs high complexity testing under direct supervision unless the technician meets the minimum qualification set forth by the state and CLIA regulations. This Medical Technician is assigned to one or more of the following laboratory sections of responsibility: Blood Bank, Microbiology (Bacteriology Virology Parasitology Mycology Mycobacteriology Immunology Molecular Diagnostics), Core Lab (Hematology Coagulation Routine Chemistry Urinalysis), Special Chemistry.

• Appropriate certification by the ASCP or other similar accrediting agencies preferred.

• Strong computer skills.
• Knowledge of quality assurance and quality control procedures.
• Must be able to work weekends and holidays when needed.
• May be required to take call.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
• Visual acuity and manual dexterity to perform clinical/technical tasks.
• Must pass color blindness test.
• Must be able to lift 10-20 pounds unassisted.
• Must be able to stand for extended periods (2-3 hours)
• Must be able to sit and operate a computer.
MENTAL DEMANDS:
• Must be able to function in a highly stressful environment.
• Responsible for problem solving situations.
• Able to make independent decisions.
• Competent and confident in interpretation of all tests performed in the section.

• Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Lab Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or any related field, as outlined by CLIA.
• Licensure: Medical Technologist licensure by State of Florida and in accordance with CLIA.

• Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Must pass color blindness test, proficient in required computer applications, work autonomously with minimal supervision, strong skills in critical thinking, prioritization and organization of tasks, communication skills (written and verbal in English).

• Majority of time involves sitting or standing; occasional walking, bending, stooping.
• Long periods of computer time or at workstation.
• Light work that may include lifting or moving objects up to 20 pounds with or without assistance.
• May be exposed to inside environments with varied temperatures, air quality, lighting and/or low to moderate noise.
• Communicating with others to exchange information.
• Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks.
• Workspace may vary from open to confined; on site or remote.
• May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require use of personal vehicle.
