SUMMARY

Reporting to the superintendent of recreational facilities, the incumbent performs a range of general maintenance tasks at the Aquatic and Sports Centre; ensures the proper operation of equipment and water-quality control; enforces policies, procedures and public safety in line with established safety measures; and collaborates with user groups.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform general maintenance of indoor areas (main entrance, washrooms, locker rooms, meeting rooms, offices, storage areas, etc.)
Clear entrances of snow and debris
Clean and disinfect deck surfaces, the non-submerged edges of pools, return-water grates and filters
Vacuum the pool floor with specialized equipment
Set up activity areas according to established requirements
Check and ensure the operation of pool water-quality control equipment
Calculate chemical concentration levels in the pool
Clean and inspect the slide and boat mechanisms
Take water samples, check water temperature and adjust control systems to standards
Store equipment and materials used by bathers and staff
Maintain, repair and inspect equipment and tools
Apply lock-out procedures for equipment and tools
Keep a daily log of water condition and temperature, as well as products used
Handle and store chemicals
Follow Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) procedures
Ensure that the public complies with policies and procedures established by the leisure and recreation department
Ensure the safety of staff and the public when facilities, equipment and tools are in use
Perform any other related tasks associated with the smooth running of activities
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education

High school diploma or equivalent
Certification

Pool Operator certificate
Driver’s licence

Valid Class 5 driver’s licence
Experience

Two (2) years’ experience maintaining a recreational facility
Considerable experience working with the public
Skills

Good communication skills in French and English
Ability to communicate, listen well and interact easily with people in general
Initiative, discernment and ability to prioritize
Ability to work under pressure, independently, as part of a team, and without ongoing supervision
Ability to quickly assess situations
Versatility and availability
Ability to operate equipment and tools
Positive attitude with respect to the interests of the municipality and the community in general
Ability to perform the manual skills required of the work requested
Physical ability to do the work assigned
Punctuality and regular attendance
Good past record of job performance

WORK SCHEDULE

Forty (40) hours per week (various shifts - day, evening and weekend)
SALARY

Salary is $28.82 per hour, as per CUPE Local 467+ collective agreement
