Laboratory Technician
Job description
The ideal candidate is a motivated self-starter capable of working in a team environment who possesses a strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy. This position will rotate on day and afternoon shift (every 2 – 4 weeks).
Primary Responsibilities:
• Sorting samples for analysis.
• Weighing and preparing samples for assaying including solid samples and solutions.
• Performing routine instrumentation analysis which includes operating and maintaining laboratory equipment and apparatus including but not limited to, XRF, atomic absorption, auto‐titration, Mercury analyzer, and ICP.
• Compiling, interpreting, and accurately recording analytical data/results on assay reports.
• Conducting and assisting in air and water quality testing for environmental monitoring and compliance with Standards.
• Carrying out a limited range of other technical functions in support of tests and analysis.
• Following safe work practices and procedures including the safe handling of acids and Lead.
• Ensuring that all Environmental Health Safety procedures are followed.
• Hazardous waste is stored in accordance with Environmental Health and Safety policy and procedures.
• Following labelling schedule posted inside of Laboratory.
• Performing regular housekeeping of the work area and assisting with general lab housekeeping and washing of lab dishware as needed.
• Performing other job‐related duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications:
• University degree or College Diploma in Chemistry
• Fresh University graduates with knowledge of operating analytical chemistry instrumentation including Atomic Absorption (AA) or ICP would be an asset.
• Able to work independently and work efficiently with a high degree of accuracy as part of a team
• Self-motivated and high level of energy
• Candidate should have interest and ability to progress to a more senior / supervisory position in future.
• Must be comfortable wearing Personal Protective Equipment on a continual basis
• Ability to work overtime as required
• Candidate should be at ease with routine / repetitive work
• Good communication skills in written and spoken English.
• Good computer skills in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Pay: $50,000.00-$55,000.00 per year
