Lab Technician
Job description
Reporting to the Quality Manager this position is responsible for day to day running of lab including all required daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly tests and calibrations.
SKILLS:
• Flexibility
• Maintaining accurate and detailed documentation
• The ability to multi-task and manage time efficiently
• Be able to lift up to 40lbs over a short period of time
• Strong Organizational Skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to write procedures, work instructions and reports.
• Working knowledge of computer based programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Aseptically sample cheese
• Conducts daily chemical tests, including pH, fat, moisture and salt
• Performs microbiological tests, for Coliform, E. coli, Staph, yeast and mold
• Performs all necessary equipment calibrations within the plant
• Conducts environmental testing, including, air quality, water and equipment swabs
• Performs lab documentation in a timely and accurate manner
• Cleans, prepares and maintains laboratory equipment
• Maintains a clean and safe lab area at all times
• Other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
• Post-Secondary education in Food Science, Microbiology or related discipline
• Minimum 2 years of experience in the food industry
• Understanding of CFIA regulations and FSEP requirements is an asset
• Experience with MS office applications (Excel, Word and Outlook)
• Ability to work off shift, various hours and some weekends
