We are currently hiring a Hard Coat Technician to work in our Vancouver, British Columbia facility!
Shifts Available: Monday – Friday 9am – 5:30pm
Pay Rate: $18/hour

What you’ll do:
- Responsible for checking, sorting, and routing the orders to appropriate edgers.
- Verifying the prescription to ensure it matches the work ticket.
- Verifying the frame for correct tray number and edge type.
- Responsible for performing basic first inspections such as:
- Checking for any cosmetic defects (coating flaws, scratches and pits) that are not cutting out.
- Dotting the lenses for Single Vision prescription.
- Checking the laser markings on Progressive prescription and dot the lenses.
- Marking Right and Left on the lenses and ensure they are sitting correctly on the tray.
- Responsible for blocking the lenses on the lensometer for simple prescriptions.
- Responsible for assembling eyewear according to job specifications on DVI work ticket:
- Using the handstone/hand edgers to feather the lens edges.
- Assist in the basic operation, cleaning and ongoing maintenance of laboratory tools and equipment in accordance with established maintenance procedures and calendars.
Qualifications:
- Optical Lens Training (asset)
- Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma in Opticianry or Optometry (asset)
- Experience in manual manufacturing/assembly
- Ability to read and understand machine schematics (asset)
- Mechanical skills (asset)
- Strong basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
- Continuous learning is a large part of this position, and therefore the ability to retain varying degrees of information is required (significant use of memory)
- Must be able to stand/walk for majority of shift
- Good near vision and sharp focus to adjust vision when doing close work.
- Fine motor skills / manual dexterity is required to manipulate objects. Handling by seizing, holding, grasping, turning or otherwise working with the hands and fingers.
