Job Title: Junior Accountant - HVAC Industry
Location: Portland, Or
Job Type: Full-Time/Part-Time/Contract
Reports To: Staff Accountant
Job Summary:
We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Accountant to join our accounting team within the HVAC industry. This role is ideal for someone eager to build their accounting career while gaining hands-on experience in a fast-paced, service-driven environment. You'll assist with financial tasks related to service contracts, parts inventory, job costing, and other HVAC-specific financial operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in managing accounts payable/receivable including vendor invoices, service billings, and customer payments
Record daily financial transactions related to HVAC service calls, equipment sales, and installation projects
Support job costing by tracking labor, material, and overhead expenses for individual HVAC projects
Reconcile general ledger accounts and assist with monthly and year-end closings
Help maintain accurate inventory records for HVAC parts and equipment
Prepare daily bank reconciliations and assist with cash flow tracking
Work closely with service managers and technicians to ensure accurate billing and time tracking
Organize and maintain financial records and documentation
Assist in preparing financial reports and analysis as requested for management
Qualifications:
1-2 years of accounting experience (experience in construction, field service, or HVAC a plus)
Basic understanding of accounting principles and job costing
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or similar ERP systems used in construction/HVAC)
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Excellent communication and time management skills
Ability to thrive in a deadline-driven environment
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in the HVAC, construction, or field service industry
Familiarity with service management software (e.g., ServiceTitan, FieldEdge, or similar)
Knowledge of sales tax, payroll, and equipment leasing practices in the HVAC space
