The Role
The Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG) Platforms Division is looking for professionals with experience in Aviation Safety for the role of Principle Aviation Safety Lead, providing specialist guidance and support for aviation operations.

You will work as part of a Team with other safety professionals and safety advisors providing advice and assistance to researchers within DSTG. Your support will assist researchers to meet their safety obligations for Aviation Operations across a broad and exciting range of research activities. Your role will contribute directly to the provision of a safe working environment for scientists, engineers, and technical experts focused on providing Defence with Science and Technology (ST) capability.

You will have the opportunity to demonstrate your passion, commitment and experience in Aviation Safety through the delivery of professional and increasingly complex safety advice and assistance to ST stakeholders. Whilst working within Platforms Division you will provide support across DSTG.

The Principal Aviation Safety Advisor will:

Provide leadership to ensure risk reduction for Un-crewed Aviation Systems (UAS) Operations conducted as part of research.
Support the DSTG Authorising Officer in line with the Defence Aviation Safety Regulations.
Provide oversight for development of governance and compliance arrangements across DSTG.
Build and sustaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Provide support for Aviation Operations across DSTG to support research outcomes.
Share your expertise with others, guiding and mentoring less experienced staff in aviation safety.
Build awareness of the Defence Aviation Safety Regulations across DSTG.
Interpret and apply legislation, policies and procedures in order to provide advice.
Ensure group level aligned with Defence policy for Aviation Safety.

About our Team
Platforms Divisions develops, integrates and experiments with innovative technologies to produce effective ST solutions for crewed and un-crewed ADF platforms across air, land, maritime and space to achieve capability advantage. The Principal Aviation lead role is embedded within Platforms and will work as part of the broader Safety Team to provide specialist support for research staff.
