Position Summary
The Director of People is a hybrid leadership role that blends strategic HR, recruiting, onboarding, and hands-on training. You’ll work closely with both executive leadership and field operations to design a workforce experience that attracts top talent, develops leaders, and retains high performers.
This is not a behind-the-scenes HR desk job—this is an active, in-the-field leadership role where your work will directly impact frontline performance and company growth.
Key ResponsibilitiesTalent Acquisition Workforce Strategy
• Lead company-wide recruitment for seasonal and year-round roles
• Build hiring funnels for field, operations, and administrative teams
• Partner with department leads to fill key positions (crew leads, managers, dispatch)
• Organize and lead hiring events with job testing and on-site evaluations
Training, Onboarding Development
• Design structured onboarding programs with Day 1 / 30 / 90 touchpoints
• Run pre-season boot camps, job-specific training, and live equipment demos
• Develop clear career ladders and advancement plans across departments
• Oversee implementation of a learning management system (LMS)
Performance Culture
• Build and manage a feedback-driven performance management system
• Conduct stay interviews, pulse surveys, and employee engagement programs
• Champion a safety-first, team-oriented, accountable workplace culture
• Support retention through mentorship, recognition, and growth planning
HR Operations Compliance
• Manage compliance with federal/provincial labor laws, OSHA, WSIB, DOT, and safety standards
• Oversee payroll, compensation structure, and benefits administration
• Track workforce metrics including hiring, retention, and engagement data
• Implement and maintain digital HR tools (HRIS, onboarding systems)
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
• 5+ years in people leadership, HR, or workforce development
• Experience in snow ice, landscaping, construction, or field services industries
• Proven success designing and delivering hands-on training and onboarding programs
• Strong knowledge of recruiting, compliance, and performance systems
• Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills
• Comfortable working outdoors, during storm events or seasonal peaks
Preferred Qualifications:
• OSHA-10/30, CPR/First Aid, or other safety certifications
• CDL Class B or equipment operation experience
• HRIS or LMS implementation experience
• Bilingual in English/Spanish is a strong plus
