The Communications Division provides a strong strategic and supportive role to four program areas, the deputy minister and the minister’s office. As part of a small team, you will have the opportunity to apply your skills to all aspects of communications from writing to video creation, media relations, issues management and publication design. We produce high quality work and look for the story that needs to be shared with internal and external stakeholders.
We are looking for a highly motivated and accomplished communicator with experience in video production, editing and animation along with strong written and verbal skills to join our team as a communications consultant.
The Opportunity
In this position, responsibilities include:
Developing and implementing communication strategies that support the goals and objectives of the ministry and of government.
Assisting with media relations and issues management.
Providing strategic communications advice to senior officials.
Researching and writing a wide range of communications materials such as communications strategies, speaking notes, media responses, news releases, strategic key messages, website content, social media content and other duties as assigned.
Developing, creating and editing videos for internal and external purposes using animation and traditional filming.
Establishing, building and maintaining positive, proactive relationships with stakeholders.
Support ministry colleagues in fostering a great culture.
The Ideal Candidate
To be successful in this role you will be:
A critical strategic thinker with superior communication and interpersonal skills.
A professional skilled at writing, editing and developing a variety of communications materials, including communications strategies, news releases, speeches and reports.
Able to anticipate, identify and assess broad media issues in the context of the impact on ministry and government mandate, strategic direction and develop recommendations.
Organized and capable of handling competing deadlines while consistently delivering excellence.
Creative and can proficiently use Adobe products such as Photoshop, InDesign and Premier Pro as well as Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel to deliver quality products.
An innovative communicator with the ability to update website platforms and SharePoint sites.
Typically, the knowledge and abilities required for this position would have been acquired through a degree certificate or diploma in communications, marketing journalism, public relations, or a combination of education and experience in a comparable field. You will also have several years of communications experience in the public or private sector.
