Chief Legal Strategist
The State Government of Victoria, Australia is seeking a highly skilled and experienced legal professional to fill the role of Chief Legal Strategist in its Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action. This position plays a critical role in shaping the department's prosecutions strategy and ensuring that it is aligned with government priorities.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement effective prosecutions strategies that meet the department's objectives.
Provide strategic legal advice to senior executives and other stakeholders on complex criminal law matters.
Manage a team of lawyers and provide guidance and support to ensure they are equipped to deliver high-quality legal services.
Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including courts, police agencies, and community groups.
Requirements:
Australian lawyer within the meaning of the Legal Profession Uniform Law (Victoria), holding or eligible to hold an Australian practising certificate.
Demonstrated ability to deliver and supervise the delivery of legal advice and case management on complex issues with minimal supervision in the following key practice areas: criminal law and procedure, evidence law and statutory interpretation.
Demonstrated experience appearing as an advocate in criminal proceedings in Victorian Courts.
