About the Role

Applications are invited for a full time Adult Cardiologist with specialist training in electrophysiology and device management. This fulltime post is required to meet the needs of an expanding and reinvigorated Heart Rhythm Service in one of the leading hospitals in Australasia.

Collaborate and work within a team of 29 cardiologists, including 4 other electrophysiologists. Primary responsibilities are the management of cardiac arrhythmia problems for Te Toka Tumai Auckland City Hospital (including EP procedures and device implantation) and the Northern Region. You will also contribute to the provision of acute general cardiology care on the cardiology wards, referrals and outpatient clinics.

We are seeking a colleague who strives to advance the Heart Rhythm Service and contribute to the departmental translational research portfolio which will complement current clinical and academic activities.

About the Team/Service/ Location

We provide a regional service for all Electrophysiology and Device procedures as well as a national referral service for lead extraction work, complex arrhythmias, structural heart disease and work with the national Paediatric arrhythmia service based here. We have two Electrophysiology Laboratories, each equipped with 3D mapping systems, radiofrequency, cryo-ablation, and pulsed field ablation and undertake approximately 700 EP/ablation procedures annually. In addition, we implant approximately 700 cardiac devices per annum, including leadless pacemakers and subcutaneous extravascular ICDs. Growth in atrial fibrillation and Adult Congenital Heart ablation work continues. We provide consultation services for inpatient and outpatients, have close linkage with the Cardiac Inherited Diseases Group as well as the Adult Congenital and Paediatric groups. Close collaboration with the University of Auckland BioEngineering Group provides opportunity for basic and translational EP research activities.

Te Toka Tumai has three major facilities: Auckland City Hospital, Starship Children's Hospital and Greenlane Clinical Centre. Auckland City Hospital is New Zealand’s largest public hospital as well as the largest clinical research facility. There are approximately one million patient contacts each year, including hospital and outpatient services. We provide expertise in all sub-specialties in adult cardiology including coronary intervention, TAVI, complex electrophysiology, cardiac transplantation and adult congenital cardiology. We provide adult cardiology and cardiac surgery for South Pacific Island patients, in particular Tahiti.

The position is primarily based at Auckland City Hospital, an 1165 bed teaching hospital. The only public cardiac surgical service in the region is at Auckland City Hospital.

Auckland, the largest city in New Zealand is set in a pristine marine-based environment with a temperate climate and has a population of 1.5 million. It is a vibrant mixture of lifestyles and cultures and offers easy access to stunning and diverse scenery and a wonderful range of outdoor pursuits.

About you

Qualified adult cardiologist with subspecialty training in Electrophysiology and Device implantation.
You must hold FRACP (or equivalent international qualification) and be registered or be eligible for general registration as a Medical Officer with the Medical Council of New Zealand (mcnz.org.nz).
Sub-speciality skills including lead extraction and cardiac arrhythmia management of ACHD patients would be an advantage.
