What is this role?
The Benefits Compliance Manager will be responsible for the design, compliance, and administration of Cirkul's employee benefit programs, leave programs and HR policies. This role ensures we remain compliant with federal and state employment laws, manages audits and reporting, and serves as a trusted advisor to the People Team and business leaders.
This person will lead benefits education, improve internal policy frameworks, and ensure Cirkul is operating with excellence and integrity in all things people-related.
What does an average day look like?
Driving Results:
Manage day-to-day operations of employee benefits programs including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, wellness, and 401(k).
Manage day-to-day operations of leave programs, workers compensation and unemployment.
Lead annual open enrollment, including plan design, vendor coordination, employee communication, and system setup.
Own compliance reporting and filings such as ACA, ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, and 5500s.
Taking Ownership:
Proactively monitor changes in legislation and ensure Cirkul's policies, handbooks, and practices remain up to date.
Making Decisions:
Partner with brokers and legal counsel to evaluate and recommend benefits offerings that align with business needs and employee satisfaction.
Assess risk, identify gaps, and propose solutions in the areas of benefits administration, compliance, and policy.
Cultivating Relationships:
Serve as the primary point of contact for employees and leaders on benefits, eligibility, and compliance questions.
Collaborate with the People Team, Finance, and Legal to ensure a seamless experience across systems, processes, and programs.
Instilling Trust:
Ensure data accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance in all documentation, systems, and communications.
Customer Focus:
Create and deliver clear, accessible communications around benefits offerings, compliance topics, and policy changes.
Support employees navigating sensitive situations such as qualifying life events, leaves of absence, or complex benefit claims.
What background should you have?
5+ years of experience in HR with a focus on benefits administration, compliance, or total rewards
In-depth knowledge of federal and state employment regulations (FMLA, ADA, HIPAA, COBRA, ERISA, ACA)
Strong experience managing benefit vendors and brokers
Track record of building or maintaining HR policies and documentation
Exceptional attention to detail and a process-oriented mindset
