The Opportunity:
Postmedia Editorial Services has an opening for an accomplished editor used to working in a fast-paced newspaper environment. Our Assistant Quality Control Editor must have a keen eye for detail and ensure the highest quality of work is being produced. While this role is specifically geared to an arts/lifestyle workflow, the ideal candidate should be equally at home editing sports, business and news copy or reshaping display type produced by others. The successful applicant is expected to balance accuracy and speed and be fully accountable for their work. We seek a savvy communicator, able to give and receive instruction with grace, and to coach and supervise in a respectful and supportive remote environment.

Experience in a fast-paced daily newsroom;
Deadline driven, able to switch gears on a moment’s notice.
Accurately copyedit, and paginate as needed
Good interpersonal communication skills;
Ability to resolve conflict and solve problems;
Proficiency in CP style;
Experience slotting a daily newspaper;
Strong design sense
Experience using Adobe InDesign and InCopy within the NavigaNCS (Saxotech) work environment is an asset, as is experience co-ordinating production across multiple publications (tracking content to avoid duplication, etc.)
Duties:
Assist with overseeing daily and advance arts and lifestyle production for PES's core publications and centrally produced work for the chain.
Place and adjust content using Adobe InDesign, modifying page setups to accommodate ads or integration with other articles.
Check editing work done by others on the PES team, ensuring trims to stories, headlines, captions and other elements on the page are of a suitable standard to go to press.
Work with members of the PES management team to adjust workflow planning for planned and unplanned disruptions.
In absence of national life editor or national arts editor, take on additional responsibilities in relation to publication planning.
