Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Cook to join our dedicated team in our residential care home in Pontardawe. This is an 27 hour part time, permanent position. Working hours are a mix of mornings and afternoons (8am - 2.30pm / 1pm - 7.30pm), based on a 2 week rolling rota, with every other weekend off. If you would like the opportunity to work with some truly amazing people please read on….. Current colleague testimonial: ‘No two days are the same! I take a menu for the day in the morning, catch up with care staff and residents, chatting with all the many different characters in the home. I prepare meals throughout the day, check stock, prepare birthday and residents requests when they ask, or just have a chat if that’s what they want. The job is very rewarding, I get a lot of enjoyment out of it. To sum it up, I am not just a cook!!

What is the role?

This service is the home of 40 residents, all with individual personalities and different support needs including some with dementia.

The Kitchen Assistant will be part of the catering team ensuring the highest standards are achieved to meet the needs to the residents. You’ll prepare, cook and serve meals (including portion control and provision of special dietary meals where necessary). You’ll also implement health and safety in the kitchen, including food hygiene, Infection control and COSHH.

This role will mean that you will manage the full meal-time process from ordering and receipting food for the kitchen, to storage, food preparation, cooking and clean-up.

A great part of this job is actively engaging residents in conversation and having meaningful interactions with them about their lives and experiences.

You will also provide assistance to people who we support at mealtimes if they require it.

What skills and experience do you need?

To be successful you’ll have experience of working in food preparation in a professional kitchen environment.
