Dunedin City Council is seeking an Alcohol, Psychoactive Drugs Gambling Advisor / DLC Secretary to lead and coordinate our alcohol licensing processes, oversee gambling compliance, and manage the City Safety Project.

The Opportunity

Are you passionate about community wellbeing, public safety, and regulatory excellence? This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on public health and safety while shaping policy and fostering strong community relationships.

In this fixed-term (2 years) position, you'll be at the forefront of implementing the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act and the Gambling Act 2003, while also driving initiatives that reduce alcohol-related harm and enhance city safety. You'll work closely with internal teams, regulatory agencies, and community stakeholders to ensure a proactive, collaborative, and customer-focused approach.

Key Responsibilities

Operations Compliance

Coordinate alcohol licensing processes in line with legislative requirements.
Implement Council directives under the Local Alcohol Policy.
Fulfil Council responsibilities under the Gambling Act 2003.
Customer Service

Provide expert advice and support to alcohol licensing clients.
Ensure District Licensing Committee (DLC) services are accessible, efficient, and aligned with economic development goals.
Policy Advice

Develop educational materials and make available to stakeholders.
Stay informed on trends in alcohol, gambling, and community safety.
Communication Collaboration

Foster strong working relationships with the DLC, regulatory agencies, Police, and community groups.
Maintain effective communication with media and internal departments.
What We're Looking For

We're looking for a proactive, community-minded professional who brings:

In-depth knowledge of the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012 and Gambling Act 2003.
Experience in regulatory compliance, policy development, or public safety.
Strong project management skills.
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
A collaborative mindset and a commitment to continuous improvement.
The ability to interpret legislation and translate it into practical, community-focused outcomes.
