About the Opportunity

The primary purpose of the Administration Officer is to provide an excellent customer reception service for Ombudsman SA by providing effective first line contact for the general public and agencies. This role is responsible for receiving, recording, and triaging approaches made to our office, maintaining record management systems, and providing general administrative support to the office. The successful candidate will need to be able to:

handle complainants empathetically and calmly under pressure
gather, identify, and accurately record key information about complaints and enquiries in our system
analyse and prioritise correspondence
This role may occasionally involve interactions with members of the public who display complex and challenging behaviour, and therefore requires strong interpersonal skills, emotional resilience, and flexibility in high-pressure situations.


About the Business

Ombudsman SA is an independent body that investigates complaints regarding South Australian government and local government agencies, conducts audits of these agencies, reviews freedom of information determinations of these agencies, supports the implementation of the Information Sharing Guidelines across government, and receives information about state and local government activities confidentially from whistleblowers.

Special Conditions for Employment

Employment is dependent upon a National Police Certificate clearance that the AGD finds satisfactory. Successful applicants will be provided further information if an interview is requested. Forms are not to be lodged directly with SA Police (SAPOL) under any circumstances and any fees incurred by applicants in doing so will not be recoverable from the AGD.

Some out of hours work may be required.

Some interstate and intrastate travel may be required.
